What should you do if your gas stove ceases to work

It doesn't matter if it's electric or gas the average family uses the stove at least once each day. If it fails to work it can be rather a headache. However, before you do that there are a few simple steps you can follow to solve minor issues on your own.

Remove debris

In contrast to an electric cooktop you must start a gas stove to get it to start burning. Sometimes it is because the flow of gas to an igniter can be restricted by food debris that has been accumulated. To remove the build-up:

  • Clean the burner cap and the grate. cap
  • Cleanse the area using the use of a soapy washcloth and warm water.
  • Soak the base of the burner in warm water, then clean by brushing it
  • With a toothpick, remove any remaining debris that remains out of the holes in the burner
  • Cover the burner, place the burner on top and then grate it back in before trying to light the burner once more

Make sure there are no loose connections

If the issue continues to persist after you've cleared food particles, it could be due to a connection that has been loosened. To identify fault wires:

  • Take the appliance off the power source, or flip the fuse switch
  • Clean the cap for the burner, and seal the burner base
  • Secure loose or unconnected wires
  • Install the burner's base cap, grate, and base on top of the burner base.
  • Reconnect the appliance and then ignite the burner to verify the connection

Check the ignition

If you've tried all of the above and your burner is still unable to spark, it could indicate an issue with the igniter. If the igniter is generating sparks that are in orange or yellow, instead of blueish-white, it might need to be replaced. For this, follow these steps:

  • Take the appliance off the power source and the gas supply
  • Take off the cap of the burner and make use of a screwdriver to remove the base of the burner
  • Connect the wires to the igniter.
  • Find for the stove's model, or the owner's manual to determine which ignition unit to buy
  • Install the new igniter , and replace the burner's base, cap and the grate
  • Connect the appliance to the outlet and restart the gas supply and then ignite the burner.
