Gas stove maintenance tips

Gas stoves have many advantages and are becoming more popular in modern homes. Gas stoves heat quickly, cook food quicker, are more versatile for grilling or searing, and they are easier to regulate the temperature. Gas stoves require more attention than electric stoves. Cleaning and properly maintaining a gas stove will help you avoid a stove appliance repair and help keep it working efficiently. These are our top tips for gas stove maintenance.

Regularly clean your gas stove

You should wipe down your stove's surface every day if you use it daily. Use a mild cleaner to clean the surface. You don't have to clean the surface every day. However, it is important to immediately wipe up any spills and messes so that they don't stick. You can prevent scratches and abrasive cleaning by reducing the amount of hard scrubbers. Perform a deep clean on every piece once a month (more details below).

Use gentle cleaning products

The stove's surface can be etched and gas elements damaged by harsh chemicals. Use hot water and dish soap. A cloth or gentle scrubber is recommended. You don't want water puddles on the gas stove.

Soak burner caps and burner caps

A common issue with gas stoves not working is that burner channels have accumulated debris. This is the number one reason homeowners call for gas stove repair. A clog can prevent gas from evenly spreading. Take off the burner caps and burner heads and let them soak in warm water with vinegar. To clean the burner channels, never use a toothpick nor any other wooden stick. To remove stubborn debris from the burner head, use a toothbrush or straw to clean the channels.

Let the components of the burners soak for 20 minutes. Then scrub them and dry them before putting them back on the stove. This should be done at least once per month.

Clean the grate

Many gas stoves have an enamelled grate that covers the stovetop. Others have smaller grates. Grates can collect a lot of oil and spillages, so it is important to scrub them at least once per week. For about 30 minutes, soak the grates in warm soapy water. Next, use a sponge or scrubber for any remaining debris. Allow the grates to dry completely before putting them back on the stovetop.
