Tips to clean and maintain your dishwasher

Do you find that dishes are stuck to the bottom of your dishwasher when you empty them? Do you smell something bad from your dishwasher? These are some maintenance tips to keep your dishwasher clean before calling Abbotsford appliance repair.

1. Clean the filter

Although dishwashers come in a variety of sizes, most have a trap that captures large food particles that are too large to be thrown down the drain. You will find the filter at the point where water drains. Your dishwasher may smell funny if food particles get stuck there.

  • Remove the filter from your dishwasher
  • You should shake off any food particles that may have escaped into your garbage
  • Warm soapy water is used to rinse the filter.
  • Clean the area in which the filter was installed
  • Put your filter back in its place
  • It is possible that the appliance's odor has disappeared.

2. Clean the spinning arms

Dishes can sometimes get in the way when they are being placed in the dishwasher. To ensure that your dishes are clean, the arms must be able move freely. It is important to check and clean the spinning arms regularly in order for your dishwasher to work properly.

You might need to take the arms out of the dishwasher depending on how mineral-laden they are. Then, rinse them with vinegar. To clean the nozzles if they aren't too damaged, you can use a pipe cleaner, wire, or toothpick.

Use a soft cloth and warm soapy water to clean the sprayer arms

To see if dishes come out cleaner, run a complete dishwasher cycle. If your dishes come out cleaner, you might need to have the dishwasher repaired .

3. Make sure to clean the racks

Some mugs you love have chipped edges after they have been in the dishwasher. If your racks have rusted, anything you put in the dishwasher will chip. What causes dishes to get rusty? Exposed metal can cause dishes to chip if it touches them during a wash cycle.

All your chips racks should be checked

If they are very rusted, you can repair the racks using dishwasher rack products.

All dishes will be clean next time you wash them. The dishwasher will look cleaner with new racks or repaired racks.

4. Clear the drain

Your dishwasher drain can get clogged after several washes. Clogged drains prevent the dirty water from leaving the dishwasher after each wash cycle, so dishes can remain dirty. Do not get frustrated and clog your drain. Is the drain in your dishwasher? It is located at the bottom of your dishwasher.

  • Disconnect the dishwasher's electrical source
  • Remove the cover and unscrew the drain
  • You can take large amounts of food or debris from the drain by using your hands
  • To remove any small pieces from the drain, use a brush or a cloth
  • In the reverse order that you took it out, put the drain back on.

After you've completed the four steps above, you can run another cycle in your dishwasher. You will probably find that it works. Your dishes will be free from scum and other damage by cleaning your dishwasher regularly.

If your dishwasher still isn't working properly, call Abbotsford professional appliance repair to have it fixed.
